Mirrors, Aliens, and Moments

So, when I left off last time, I said that I heard a voice behind me…

I did.  And he asked me if I was looking for something. And I wasn’t…but I was… remember?

Well, in my head I was walking right out that door, getting in my car and driving 20 minutes back home empty-handed.

Except, I wasn’t.  I heard a voice saying,

“Well, I was looking at these mirrors, but I just don’t understand what is going on with them”

It was my voice…  MY voice.  It was as if I had been taken over by some alien entity.  I didn’t know what I was doing or saying or where I was going.  I was out that door, for real.

But I wasn’t.  I was turning around, walking back over and around the corner and putting my hands on these two mirrors.  Then I was picking up the price tags and showing them to this tired looking fella, who stared at me…and then at them…and then back at me again.

And in my head, I heard him saying that he was sorry and that this was  just the way things were. And, in my mind, yet again, I was walking out that door…

Except he wasn’t…and I wasn’t.

He was saying, “Mam, people come in here all of the time and switch tags, and that doesn’t look right to me. Do you want them? For $10 each?”

And my head was spinning, because the very moment that I thought was NOT happening was happening and I was forced to make a decision that I wasn’t prepared in the least to make.

It was like being that frightfully insecure 13 year old girl again. And really liking that boy, and knowing there was no way he liked me… except that he did and he was standing there telling me that I was the prettiest Stanton girl of all… And I stood there speechless, completely dumbfounded that I was hearing those words coming out of his mouth…

It was surreal.

And I wasn’t prepared…

But apparently I was, because that alien took over again and was saying, “Sure, I’ll take them if they are only ten dollars each!”

And giving me the one tag that was marked $20, he told me to go upstairs and pay, and if I brought my car around the building to the back door, he’d help me load them.

And so, I was no longer walking out the door empty handed… I was walking up the stairs… through the narrow hallway… passing signs declaring that prices were in no way, shape or form negotiable. Hmmm….

And I was taking home, these two very cheap {and very plastic} mirrors.

Brown Mirrors Before

Are they what I was looking for?  No.

And yes.  Sometimes you just never know if that moment in time is one that you will cherish or regret.  And this moment… I just couldn’t let this moment slip away…

Well, I have them now.  Let’s hope I can make something beautiful out of this monstrous ugliness.

You must NOT speak too soon.

I went the route of Wonka hooked up with Seuss and had some illegitimate chillens.

      Oh, mercy.
