Oh, I’ve probably lost 54 thousand pounds over the course of my life, if you know what I mean.
But this post is about so much more than just weight loss. It’s about a total and complete transformation of life. How I look at it, how I act, how I think, and how I eat.
I love a good before and after… how this one?
How did I do it?
It started with exhaustion.
I was exhausted trying. I was over it. I didn’t want to think about it anymore.
So I gave up. I guess you could say that I finally hit rock bottom.
But it wasn’t myself I gave up. It was sugar and wheat and carbs in general.
They’d never done anything good for me long-term, so I kicked them to the blessed curb.
That was in April of 2013. After about 3 months, I felt so much better.
So much so, that I actually began to think about moving my butt.
At this point, my butt was about 15 pounds lighter… yahoo!
But I had one problem…
I hated to exercise.
I’d tried it all… walking, running, step-aerobics, weight lifting.
Nothing gave me joy. But there was one thing that I had tried that I didn’t loathe.
Yoga.
So in August 2013, I took my shabby body to the YMCA and started in on the easy morning classes.
I was hooked.
Once I built up a little stamina, I grabbed all of my courage and snuck in the back of a Power Yoga class.
The first time I went, I thought I was in an advanced spinning class because about halfway though my world was spinning round and round and round. I was dripping sweat and had to sit in child’s pose for about half the class.
But that’s what I love about yoga. You leave competition at the door and do what you can.
SO, I kept going, and I kept going and here I am a year later:
Yup. That’s my 42 year old self standing on my head in the middle of the studio.
Miracles DO happen, y’all.
This all took time. I was patient with myself and a good year later, I’m 40 pounds lighter and can stand on my head!!! {if that doesn’t deserve exclamation points, I don’t know what does, yo.}
How do I keep it going when every other time before I’d just revert back to my bad habits?
The key is in my mind… my thoughts. I watch them like a hawk. If bad thinking creeps in, I turn it around and tell myself the opposite.
But I also find ways to supplement. I’ve added a little fruit back in my diet, and I’m always looking for ways to make treats healthier.
I LOVE to make breakfast shakes.
Yesterday, I made THE best one ever with coconut milk, crushed pineapple and The Daily Good Green Chocolate Blend that came in the The Blend Box of Daily Good Greens from Aloha.
The Blend box comes with six samples. Two each of Chocolate Cocoa, Berry Blend and Dried Green juice.
I used the Chocolate Cocoa to make my Chocolate Pina Colada Breakfast Shake. I’ll be sharing the recipe on Thursday so be sure to pop back over cuz it’s goooood, y’all!
Yummmmy. And it has loads of healthy stuff in it.
I also used the Berry Blend mixed with a bit of almond milk, water, stevia and then blended with ice.
It’s a great pick me up for breakfast.
About The Blend Box

I’ve never felt better in my life.
This road that I’ve travelled? It was no quick fix. I’ve had to take each day as it comes knowing that it’s the little decisions that I make that add up to a great, big, healthy bag of life.
It’s totally, totally, totally worth it.
Are you ready?
You look awesome, congrats! And feeling better too, that’s the bomb! 🙂 I am at the last 4 days of a Whole 30 and I feel great. Now for the maintenance. 🙂

It was so good for me to see this today! I am on day 4 of a Whole30 – I have never done it for more than two weeks and I am determined this time to get to day 30! But sometimes it feels like I gave up all the fun foods. You are right that I just need to get that negative thinking back on track!
You can do it, Sarah! How’s it going???

You are so awesome Gwen! My 27 year old self definitely can’t do a headstand; I don’t think I’ve been able to do one since I took gymnastics when I was like 10! You are such an inspiration!
Haha! Thank you! It’s probably been 30 years since I’ve tried… longer than you’ve been alive!
Great job! I’ve been wondering about those Aloha products.

Congratulations, Gwen! You always inspire. I love the picture of you standing on your head ~ it’s more than awesome ~ I think you should get it made into a poster.
