1. Who are you?
I’m This Bold Girl. I grew up thinking that I could never be a real success. No one ever told that to me… I made it all up in my own head. Where does that even come from? I can’t say. But over time, with concentrated practice, I’ve learned to keep that negative voice in check.
I’m also a lover of learning. Through Classical Homeschooling, I’ve discovered that I can learn something new everyday, for as long as I live. I look to people like Thomas Jefferson and Grandma Moses and find courage that no matter where I am in life, I can learn and grow and strive to be purposeful in each and every day.
2. Why The Bold Abode?
I started The Bold Abode because I saw that the world was becoming a color-neutral place. I now absolutely appreciate the neutral color scheme and see beautfiul examples of it being used thoughtfully and artistically I however, still prefer to have color on the walls.
But over time, The Bold Abode became about more than just color. It showed me that I was living my life in a safe and quiet box. Writing on this blog allowed me to stretch the idea of who I was and who it is that I desire to be. When I started, I wasn’t This Bold Girl. It took months and months to find that seed, nurture and grow it. Oh, that little fluffy chicken pokes it’s head out from time to time, but I’ve trained my brain to notice when it does, and I can face it head on and make it be quiet…usually.
3. What did you do before The Bold Abode?
Before TBA, I spent time doing a ridiculous many things. I’ve waited tables, worked as a receptionist, bank teller, bank sales rep, music teacher, church choir director and opera singer.
But my most beloved role has been that of a wife to my husband Morgan and mother to my two boys, Morgan and Brendan.
4. What are you favorite projects?
I’d say first, sewing. My mom taught me to sew early on and my grandfather bought me my very own machine when I was twelve. I still wonder, to this day, why I never realized I could use those skills in a career…
But also, I LOVE working with wood. If I had the tools to build furniture, I imagine a great love affair with carpentry. But, alas, I don’t. So, as you will see in my Building section, I do what I can with what I have. That’s all apart of being bold and making it work.
5. I’ve done something I never thought I could do. Can I share it with you and your readers?
Abso-freakin’-lutely. I love to hear and share inspiring stories with my readers. Just submit a brief overview of you post, and I will get back with you about sharing it on The Bold Abode. You don’t even have to have a blog. Just an inspiring story and a couple of photographs…
6. I want to live a bolder life.
Can you help me?
I can try… I’ve written a little bit about how I came to be This Bold Girl, and hope to publish an eBook in the near future. But for now, I’d love for you to subscribe to my updates down below and follow along on my journey to live a BOLDER life!
