So, I’ve decided there are two things I want to learn how to do {better} this year. The first is Hand-lettering and the second is DIY jewelry.
When we started our weekly linky party, Creativity Unleashed, {shameless plug: every Thursday at 7PM EST} I was introduced to the most amazing jewelry maker, The Jewelry Making Journal.
Geez. Her stuff is awesome. I’m particularly in love with these earrings, this bracelet, and these Hoops. So you may see recreations of those here in the coming months.
After I made these Glitter Heart Magnets {because between packing lunches and shifting the dust bunnies around, I just have loads of time}, I knew I had to make one sans magnet and wear it.
So, I did. And I almost love it more than the glitter itself.
How to make your own Glitter Heart Leather Bracelet
What you need:
- One Glittered Heart {check out my tutorial here for how to make it}
- Leather cording or other cording if you don’t want to use leather
- Crimp Closure with Loop
- 2 jump rings
- One clasp
- Drill
After you glitter your heart,
you’ll need to drill two holes for the cording.
Then, thread your leather cording through the heart. It tried going this way first, but it wouldn’t sit flat on my wrist.
So, I threaded it the opposite way. {aaaand forgot to take a picture. High-five}
Next, put the bracelet on your wrist and mark where to trim it so it fits. Then trim it.
Now, we’re ready for the clasp.
Attach your clasp ends to the jump rings and the jump rings to the closure. Then tightly crimp the closure onto the leather.
As far as closures go, I coundn’t find these on the internet. I bought them at Michael’s, so they are there. You can get a different type of closure online, but I recommend checking the store so you get the size that will fit your leather.
Once both ends are clipped tightly on, it’s time to show the world your great creativity.
TADA.
It’s very pretty with Hot Pink, eh? {that’s for all my Canadian friends out there}
BTW, Dear Canadian friends, I mourn with you over your loss of Target.
If this little Glitter Heart Bracelet is evidence of things to come, I’m going to LOVE making my own jewelry.
What about you? Is this something you might wear?
So cute! Gold+ Glitter + Leather = winning combo 🙂
Ha! I just saw my shout out! And I very much appreciate your kind words and sympathies. Also, cute bracelet! Wearing glitter is definitely due to make a comeback!
What a fun idea! I love making my own jewelry, but I haven’t worked with leather! Good tips!
Great idea! I love this simplicity of this bracelet! It would be a perfect 5 year anniversary gift!
