When you put all of your family in one room together, sometimes it’s a LOT. Everyone has different ideas of what the day should look like and sometimes, it can be challenging to make everyone feel happy and welcome!

So why not plan some fun activities for your crew? Not everyone has to be involved in everything, so if you have a couple of options, you can spend some family bonding time in small groups instead of one giant conflict waiting to happen.

Of course, not every family has conflict! But every family could use some targeted time spending it with peaceful planned things to do.

It’s what we have called “forced family fun” in our home. LOL

Here are 10 great Thanksgiving activities and ideas for turkey day to keep your family occupied and create some fun bonding moments!

1. Turkey Trot 5K: Spend the morning at a local Turkey Trot! If your town or city doesn’t have one, think about putting one together! It’s a great way to burn some calories (and keep those active family members super happy) before the big feast.

2. Go to or watch a Thanksgiving Parade: Watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on TV, or if you’re in New York City, maybe you could actually attend in person. If you have a little ones, you could ask everyone to dress up like a turkey and have your own parade in the neighborhood! That could be really fun and keep the young, and the young at heart busy!

3. Turkey Bowl: Organize a friendly touch or flag football game with family and friends in a nearby park or your backyard. You can even grab these cute t-shirts from amazon for you team!

4. Pumpkin Pie Baking Contest: Have a friendly competition to see who can bake the best pumpkin pie!!! You can even include a taste-testing panel to judge the pies. If you have a fun, friendly neighborhood, you could open it up to the whole area!

5. Thanksgiving Crafts: Set up a crafting station with materials for making Thanksgiving-themed crafts like DIY place cards, gratitude journals, or handprint turkeys, crowns and hats for the kids.

6. Thanksgiving Movie Marathon: Create a cozy movie-watching atmosphere with Thanksgiving-themed movies or classics that the whole family can enjoy.

7. Outdoor Adventure: If you’re not into a 5K on turkey day, why not do something low-key active? Maybe go for a hike or nature walk to enjoy the fall foliage and burn off some calories before dinner!

8. Thanksgiving Trivia: Who doesn’t love a fun game of trivie? How about creating a trivia game with questions related to Thanksgiving history, traditions, and fun facts? Maybe even tailor it to your own family history? Divide into teams and compete for small prizes like a homemade pie to take home, some candy corn gift bags or pumpkin spice anything! Gift cards from Starbucks or Crumbl would be an awesome prize!

9. Thanksgiving Charades: Play a game of Thanksgiving-themed charades where participants act out words or phrases related to the holiday.

10. Gratitude Circle: What could be more appropriate than spending time sharing what you are thankful for? Gather everyone together and take turns sharing what you’re thankful for this year!

You can grab this super cute squishmallow plushie to use as a talking stick!

Maybe even have someone write down or video as your family members share their gratitude. It would be a sweet way to remember your time together and pass it down for generations!

Remember, Thanksgiving is a time for togetherness and gratitude!

By planning some activities that your family will enjoy, you can help alleviate the stress of a lot of different personalities being together in the same room all day!

Plus you can create some fun memories that will last for a lifetime and maybe even create some new traditions!
