How to play Thanksgiving charades!

  • Prepare the Clues:
    • On the following pages, you’ll find 30 Thanksgiving terms and sayings. Cut the cards out and randomly put them in two baskets. There is a blank page for you to use your own ideas if you prefer.
  • Divide into Teams:
    • Split the players into two or more teams. Each team takes turns being the one to act out the clues while the other teams try to guess.
  • Setup the Playing Area:
    • Designate an area where the person acting out the clues (the actor) will stand or perform. This area should be visible to all teams.
  • Starting a Round:
    • Decide on a turn order or use any fair method to determine which team goes first.
  • Acting Out the Clues:
    • A member of the first team becomes the actor. They randomly select a clue from the hat or container and keep it hidden from their own team.
    • Set the timer for an agreed-upon time limit (usually 1-2 minutes).
    • The actor then starts acting out the word or phrase on the card without speaking, using gestures, body movements, and facial expressions to convey the message.
  • Guessing:
    • While the actor is performing, the other teams watch and try to guess what word or phrase the actor is trying to convey.
    • Teams can shout out their guesses, but the actor should not respond verbally or give any hints.
  • Correct Guess or Time’s Up:
    • If a team guesses the correct word or phrase before the timer runs out, that team scores a point.
    • If the timer runs out before anyone guesses correctly, the acting team does not score a point for that round.
  • Switch Teams:
    • After a round is complete, the next team takes its turn to act out clues, and play continues in this manner.
  • Winning the Game:
    • You can set a predetermined number of rounds or a target score for the game. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.
  • Optional Rules:
    • Depending on your group’s preferences, you can add variations or house rules, such as allowing a limited number of passes per turn or using a different point system.
