This saga began one drizzly day on the way to the Habitat Restore. I was looking for some stuff… You know. The kind of trip where you know you need something, but aren’t quite sure what exactly that might be…
Driving through the mist, I spied with my little eye… This…
By the dumpster, alone… discarded… And, boy howdy… I’d been searching for her in all the wrong places.
This project was filled with luck. Beyond luck-i-ness. I had just won a Cutting Edge Stencil. Sigh. I’m never, ever, ever in the history of this half-lived life THIS lucky…
But, alas, as you can see… the luck ran out…
Can I give you some unsolicited advice? Whatever you do, DON”T use a kitchen sponge to try and stencil a road-side rescued coffee table… or any other table, for that matter…
Better in Black and White?
Nope. Nothing could save this mess… except to sand it down and start over the right way…
What ever the directions say about not “necessarily” needing any Spray Adhesive, USE IT. IT HELPS. Like.. a lot.
Already better… The edges had to be tailored a bit because the stencil wasn’t the exact size, yo. But it worked out in the end.
The Bold Abode finally has a coffee table.
And we didn’t know what we were missing…
All that surface area added for our pile lovin’ pleasure…
And the best part? Now we have a place to prop our feet when we’re readin’ Nate the Great and the Lost List…
Could I get any luckier, yall???
it turned out great! i love that pattern…. and love the feet!
Thanks so much, Cassie! And, oh, how I love those little feet…
You didn’t know what you were missing!! A beautiful coffee table!! It looks great…good job!
Thanks, Janel! It’s nice to finally have a spot for our, umm… coffee…
Oh my Gwenn…what where you thinking using a kitchen sponge? LOL!~ I love the stencil. I always use a stencil roller sponge when doing table tops, etc. Thank goodness in the end you have a masterpiece!
I know, right???? Oh, boy.
I will never. again.
Love the stencil and the color coordinates perfectly with the rug! And you just gotta have a place to prop your feet!
Hehehe… Thanks, Sharon!
I love a coffee table where you can put your feet up…especially when there are TWO pair of feet involved! I never knew about the spray adhesive but girl, you know that I’m using it if I ever happen to be lucky enough to find a cool coffee table to stencil. That’ll be right around the same time that the magazine stacks finally have a home and don’t have to live on the floor beside the chair! xo
Oh, how much better it is with two pair!
And tell me about it! We’ve got piles EVERY WHERE!!!
In the end, it all turned out so pretty 🙂 I love the stencil you chose – what are you beautifying next with it?
Thanks, Jill! I’m thinking of using it in the Master Bedroom, but I’ve got to store up the energy, yo! That’s going to be a massive job…
You know, this made me realize something. The one horizontal surface in the house that is NOT piled with stuff is my family room coffee table. In fact many times it is empty. What is wrong with me? Based on the rest of my house this is definitely overlooked real estate.
~Bliss~
Oh, the coffee table is PRIME real estate! Get to piling… it’s fun. {umm… joking there. it’s a pain to keep picked up. I detest the piles, but don’t know where else to put the junk…}
Well done! Round two turned out awesome 🙂
Thanks, Ali! It was touch and go, fer sure…
Wahoo! Free coffee table! Looks great and I love the colors you picked. Our coffee table is the most used surface in the house for sure. Welcome to the coffee table owners club! We’re still working on the name.
Thanks so much, Court! I’m SO glad to be a part of the club now!!! It’s been a great addition and much needed asset…for our junk!
Love spray adhesive! It works great. Love how it turned out in the end! 🙂
Thanks so much, Ginger! I’m definitely loving that Spray Adhesive!
Nice find mama! Talk about fab rehab…love the stenciling. You’re the stenciling queen these days!
Whoo-hoo! It’s not what I would go buy… but when you do have that lovely option, its nice to find “free”!!!
Thanks, friend!
It looks great! I did something similar today, started to spray paint furniture then realized that wasn’t going to work so now I’m back to doing it the right way. I just got a stencil in the mail today, I hope mine turns out as well as yours!
Ha! Oh, do it right from the start, I guess…
I’m sure your will be AWESOME!!! Can’t wait to see what you do with it!
Nice work Gwen – it looks great! Goes with your rug too.
Thank you, Heather! It was hard figuring out what to do that would look right with that rug. I’m glad to hear you say it goes well!!!
Lol! A kitchen sponge. You crack me up! I’m glad you didn’t give up on your coffee table and redid it. It turned out fabulous!!
I know… I can be a real genius at times!!!
Thanks so much, Melissa!
Hey Gwen! sometime freebies take a little bit of elbow work and it paid off – Nice Job!
Thanks so much, Joann! We are really loving it!
