Finally…
After years and years of sitting like this…
I got off my duff and paid homage to my Great-grandfather…
I mean, he made this bed with his own two hands…
Carving this piece out with a lade…
And boiling his own sealant…could you imagine?
I could, at the very least, try and keep the pieces from falling apart, right?
He never had the option of a quick-fix Gorilla around like I do…
But I remembered what my Daddy taught me… to put a little glue on each part…
And use these little magic dowels to hold it together…
Then, like a little puzzle, put back the pieces…
And restore, my bed… which is now Little Morgan’s bed…and what was once my precious Grandfather’s bed…
Where, when I was a wee little girl,
would snuggle up in his arms and watch…
The Muppet Show.
I love you Granddaddy and, after all these many years,
I miss you still.
So sweet! Fixing the bed is such a great tribute to him! I have baby doll cradles my grandfather made for my baby dolls that my daughter now uses, and I love them more than almost anything else!
Jessica
How sweet, Jessica! Those heart connections never leave us, do they? I wish my children could have known this sweet man…

That I am, my friend… that I am…
you really have some skillz! and love the picture of you! my brother used to sit with my grampa in his big easy chair and watch the muppets with him.
Ha! That picture is totally embarrassing, but I don’t care b/c it’s one of a VERY few that I have of my Granddaddy…
Awww!! Same here lady, my dad taught me all I know! I’m blessed to have him still here but I often tell him that his legacy is in all I make and all he has made with his hands!!

Aren’t dads just the best? I wish I had soaked up more of his knowledge when I was younger and lived closer!!!
I love old family pieces. I need to pay some attention to an old secretary of ours, too. Only thing is – I want to plaint it but I don’t dare. It was from my husbands great grandmother.
I know… it’s so hard! I have several pieces that I’d love to paint, but my mom would have a coronary! Oh, boy!
Gwen that is such a sweet story! Good for you remembering how!!
Thank you, Anne! I’m was so blessed by my Granddaddy! He was a huge part of my life growing up~
Awww, that’s so sweet! Good for you for honoring his work…finally 😉 It’s really quite a work of art; did he make a lot of furniture?
My great-grandfather was a furniture maker. We have lots of his pieces in our family, and it’s so amazing to have! I only have the bed, two nightstands and a large dresser, but I treasure them! They are showing a lot of wear and tear now, so I’ve really got to pay them some attentions! He was SO talented!
I love the syle of this bed and it’s so special that your grandfather made it. I’ll be that little Morgan will pass it on to his son or daughter one day.
Great work Gwen, work those power tools. 😀
How sweet Gwen, hugs!
Great fix! You totally need to try out Gorilla glue. Scary good.
Oh, Gorilla Glue is a staple here! I use it allllllll the time!!!
The bed is fabulous, but I like hearing the history of it just as much. Sweet!
Thank you so much, Holly! I treasure it and my memories…
What a great tribute to your grandfather! I’m sure he’s really proud of you!
