I dreamed a dream in time gone by
When walls were blank
And beds were frameless
I dreamed of rooms that induced sighs
I dreamed my Love would sing Thanksgivings…
But I was young and so naïve
And dreams were made and used and wasted
There was no budget to be paid
No work to earn what it would take
But the mind it spins at night
With its wheels softly turning
And as it tears your hope apart
And it rocks your dreams awake
I had a dream my room would be
So different from this room I sleep in
So different now from what I see
But life has changed the dream I dream…
So, O.k. That musical rendition all just to say…
Yup, I thought I’d have a lovely upholstered headboard kinda like this one:
with awesome fabric like this one…
Oh, but NO! I had to be all, like, I’ve gotta get creative up in he-ya and it’s gotta be budget friendly and I should recycle something. Yeah, that’d be super cool…
And this is what I end up with…
Which I guess, isn’t the worst thing evah…but it’s a far cry from what was playin’ in this noggin up he-yah…
The first night it was in the house, Morgan laid there, and as I asked him what he thought, he said,
“It’s amazing, my love. Everything I have always dreamed of in a headboard. The room is smashing. Your so talented.”
And I rolled over and gave him a big wet sloppy kiss…
Ahem…
No. He didn’t really say that.
He said, “Ummm….I just don’t understand it…”
And I rolled over and gave him the cold shoulder…
Have this ever happened to you? Have you started out with a vision and then out of necessity been driven in a completely different direction?
Please tell me I’ma not alone…
Cuz no one is alone…
Look into the light now…
Sorry, Broadway’s on my mind for some reason.
UPDATE: THE TRUSS IS GONE. YES. I couldn’t take it anymore and I hacked it up and sent it on it’s way! Here’s a sneako-peako of the new Master Design.
This is how pretty much all of my projects work out. I really love it. I think it's really unique and completely awesome!
Ha! Are you kidding me? Non of my projects end up looking the way I start out thinking. But girl, you have got me thinking bedroom redesign when I still need to work on my living room!
In my mind, not everything has to be super decorative and perfect, as long as you like it and it's perfect for you, then it's just right 🙂 It hides the curtain hardware! It holds reading lamps! It frames out a window! You built it yourself! If you get tired of it, change it out/paint it/cut it down – that's why we do these things…to do them over when the urge hits us and then blog about it 😉
Hi Gwen, I enjoyed reading this hilarious post & sang "I Dreamed a Dream" along with the "lyrics". Great writing! And I'm impressed that you took a chance on an original idea. I love fearless people!
Warmly, Michelle
Ok, good to know we are all pretty much in the same boat! My projects NEVER look the way they do in my head…AND I have a super opinionated hubby. He actually feels the need to weigh in on everything. Sometimes it's ok, but most of the time it's just confusing! LOL
ps- I forgot to say how much I liked your idea! It's very "bold" and different than everything we see in blogland and for that I admire you!!
You crack me up. As a Les Mis fan I was able to sing along to most of this as well. As for projects not turning out the way they should–how about my projects never get finished?? The stuff I do isn't quite as fab as your work (ahhh-mazing btw), but there are still things in a constant state of unfinishedness (I think I just made that word up). My little cupboard with the chalkboard front? Still needs a final coat of chalkboard paint, and I STILL need to buy some chalk. And fall is almost ovah, and I haven't been able to write "Happy Fall Y'all" on it, and then blog about it. It's a real shame I tell ya! PS–thanks for stopping over at our blog the other day. Hope you join up with K Si and I in our WOW posts. YAY!
Happens to me all the time 🙂
Thanks for your sweet visit.
XO
Kristin
Maybe it'll grow on him. 🙂 I have a headboard on my to-do list as well. I can't decide if I like the plushy fabric ones or harder wood plank ones or something else entirely. Hubby will probably want wood though haha!
