So, I’ve realized that I’ve been blogging all wrong. I’ve been so focused on Pinterest and creating projects and posts that will be great for generating traffic, which is awesome and my blog has grown significantly. In fact, I had a goal to hit 300K pageviews/month by July and I’ve already hit that. So yay!
But, in the midst of being a content machine, I’ve felt like I’ve been missing something. I haven’t been sharing my life really. Now, I’m not a tell-all kind of girl, but things go on that I probably should be sharing and just haven’t. I want to get back to that and make this blog more of me and less just churning out stuff.
So, today, I’m sharing some quick family room updates. It’s nothing major at all. I’ve wanted to move the TV above the fireplace for ages and finally did it! Yay!
Now we have just one main focal point and I think it will be so much easier to decorate this room!
Here’s a before.. not the most recent, but you can get an idea of what it was like:
Wow. There’s a lot of stuff in there, isn’t there? I’m definitely moving to a more minimalist style, I think.
I ditched that coffee table a while back and moved the sideboard into my office when I found this amazing mid-century dresser {for free!}
Here’s where I am now:
I put the couch back facing the fireplace for now and moved my Sunburst Console from my office back into the family room. I’d really love to have two small couches an place them perpendicular to the fireplace, but um… money.
I moved the side-tables and set them in front of the windows. I wasn’t sure how I’d like this, but I kinda love it. They seriously need refinishing because I painted them before I knew what I was doing and they are peeling a bit. Yuck.
Ignore the big white planks in the window down there. They are gallery shelves that I had in my office and have been hanging out in here until I figure out what to do with them.
I put the white leather lounge chair over on the left and have big plans for that wall! Floor to ceiling fun, I think.
Someday, I’m going to have to wash the hand-drawn frames off, but I’m having a hard time doing it, because I lurve them like my big sisters.
The dresser is still on the right for now. When I get my big, burly men home at the same time, it’s going upstairs in Brendan’s room.
He was still using his baby changing dresser. While we were clearing things out in the family room, I made my guys bring it downstairs and we got rid of it. Now his clothes are just hanging out on the floor of his room. Fun times.
I *think* I want to get a double desk from Ikea and stick it there. You know, one of those kind of thin-ish ones, so it won’t block the traffic flow? I’m not sure, but that wall is going to need something. Unless I get another chair to put there.
But then I would have the desk chairs that could be used for seating. And I envision some giant poufs there instead of that little table. Giant, fun poufs. 🙂
That’s it! It’s not life-changing, but I’m happy with it for now. Much happier, in fact.
And so are the animals. Cookie is particularly excited. Can’t you tell?
Can’t leave out the puppy:
HotShot follows me everywhere I go, so I guess he wants to be on the blog too.
it is looking great and i love that leather chair! i want to come sit there!
Thank you, Cassie!
