What kind of sausage should I use?

Any kind of sausage that is about the same size as a hot dog. I bought beef sausages and jalapeño cheese sausages. YUM.

Do I need to use store-bought dough or can I make my own?

Absolutely, you can make your own! If you have a favorite pizza dough recipe, by all means use it.

Can I make these ahead?

These cute little sausages are best when made right before you serve them. But they’re not bad re-heated either. But right out of the oven, hot and fresh, they are tops.

Can I freeze these halloween sausage mummies?

If you really want to be prepared, you can roll the sausages in the dough and freeze them before you bake them. Then, take them out and thaw them for about 30 minutes before you cook them.

You can try freezing them after you bake them, but I can’t guarantee they’ll be super great. It’s mainly about cooking the sausage twice. It will dry out and not be the best.

Halloween Sausage Mummy Recipe

This super easy to make recipe will delight at your next Halloween event, or make them for your family! All it takes is some pizza dough, sausages and candy eyes!

Ingredients

10 Beef Brats
1 Pillsbury Thin Crust Pizza Dough
Candy Eyes

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Line a baking tray with parchment paper or aluminum foil. If using foil, spray with cooking spray.
On a large cutting board, roll out your pizza dough into a rectangle. If you are using the thin crust pizza dough, you just have to stretch it out a bit.
Using your pizza cutter, slice the dough into thin strips, about 1/4 wide.
Wrap strips of dough around each sausage, creating a "mummy" effect. be sure to leave a space at the top of the sausage for where you are going to stick the "eyes".
Place on baking tray.
Repeat step 5 for each sausage.
Bake in a 350 degree oven for about 15 minutes. Check at 12 to see if they are browning. Continue baking until they are a nice golden color.
Serve with mustard or ketchup, or any dipping sauce you prefer.
