When do you drink hot cocoa cold?
When it’s in a breakfast shake, obvs.
And this is a pretty good one, according to my Brendan. We’re very passionate about breakfast shakes… and not just for breakfast, mind you. Mid-morning snacks, Lunch, dinner, after dinner, mid-night snacks, 3-am-can’t-sleep-because-i-missed-my-breakfast-shake-today time. Am I forgetting any other possible snacking time?
All of my “breakfast shakes” are really just UN-milkshakes. They don’t have any milk in them at all. Well, almond milk, but no lactose milk if you really want to get technical about it. {and let me just say 15-year-old boys LOVE getting technical about things. Of course, you are probably not a 15-year-old boy, so I think I’m ok}
To make this Hot Cocoa breakfast shake, you’ll need some bananas, nut butter, almond or soy milk {or regular milk if you can do that}, 2 packets of hot cocoa mix, maple syrup or honey to sweeten, a few ice cubes and some marshmallows. I’ll post the actual recipe below, so you can print it out and join my breakfast shake addiction club. Breakfast shakes served daily.
Dump everything in your blender. I have the most amazing Ninja.
Pour in your hot cocoa packets.
Then whir it up until it’s nice and creamy. I always have to add more milk to get the consistency just right. So don’t be surprised if you need to do that too.
It pretty much tastes like a chocolate shake, but adding the marshmallows made it extra exciting. {doesn’t take much over here. think i could put marshmallows on spinach and they’d probably eat it.}
Here’s the recipe: A quick and easy hot chocolate breakfast shake with (mostly) healthy ingredients!

I always love all of your shake ideas but I could never do them because the blender would wake the baby! Now that he’s in daycare a few days a week, I’ll have to get caught up on trying all of these out! Starting with this one of course, because, hello! Chocolate milkshake!
I never think to have a shake for breakfast! I don’t like bananas though – maybe I could substitute them for something else? Any suggestions?
