Read my full disclosure here.

Oh, there are so many places in my stinky home that need deodorizing!  But neither Morgan nor I can stand those perfume smelling sprays and chemically things.  Plus, they’re super expensive and a total waste of money.

I think I’d rather just sit in the stink and be a Stinky-McStinker.

But thank goodness, I don’t have to do that.  Not with this amazing All Natural Basic Deodorizer.

Stop buying those expensive deodorizers and make your own for a fraction of the cost! And you can put it in a cute mason jar with a chalkboard label... BONUS!

This is beyond simple.  You’ll kick yourself when you see how it’s made.

What you need:

  • 8 cups of Baking Soda
  • 30 drops of Essential Oils – I used 20 Lavender and 10 Peppermint {my favorite combination!}

Yup. That’s it.

How to Make this All Natural Basic Deodorizer

Simply measure out your baking soda into a bowl and add your essential oils.

Stop buying those expensive deodorizers and make your own for a fraction of the cost! And you can put it in a cute mason jar with a chalkboard label... BONUS!

Stir to combine making sure you don’t have any clumps of oil.  Just crush around with your spoon as you stir it up.

Stop buying those expensive deodorizers and make your own for a fraction of the cost! And you can put it in a cute mason jar with a chalkboard label... BONUS!

Then spoon it into a giant Ball Mason Jar.  I got mine at Michaels for about $5 using my coupon.

Stop buying those expensive deodorizers and make your own for a fraction of the cost! And you can put it in a cute mason jar with a chalkboard label... BONUS!

That’s it!  I’ll be using this All Natural Basic Deodorizer in a few upcoming posts, so be sure to come back and see what’s going on.

if you buy Parmesan cheese that is dry and you shake it. Keep the cover. It fits on a small mouth canning jar.

That’s so cool, Trudy! I’ll have to try that!

This wouldn’t take any of the color out of the carpet, right?

    • Gwen says

      Jul 10 at 7:50 pm

It’s been fine with my light carpet, Claire, but I recommend testing in a hidden area to make sure!

  9. Carol says

So are you sprinkling on the carpet and then vacuuming it up – or sprinkle and leave? (I apologize in advance is this is a insane question).

    • Gwen says

      Jul 15 at 5:40 pm

Hi Carol! I leave it for up to 24 hours and then vacuum. This allows the baking soda to deodorize. If you just want a quick freshen, you can just leave it for a couple of hours and then vacuum.

      Hope that helps!

i’m new to this….do i put the baking soda concoction in my shoes for awhile, and then dump the powder out into the garbage?

    • Gwen says

      Aug 13 at 7:40 pm

      Hi Col!

You can do that if you want, but I prefer to put the baking soda in a fabric pouch so it doesn’t get all over my shoes. You can see mine here: https://www.theboldabode.com/how-to-freshen-a-stinky-pair-of-shoes.html

      Hope that helps!

This is what I’ve been waiting for! Now I just have too find a place close too buy essential oils from! Plus I know a few super busy folks that would love something like this. A small mason jar filled and some custom pouches too match their home decor, a cute gift bag, makes the perfect gift too them!

      Darlene,

      That’s a great gift idea!

      Thanks,

I found a bunch of very economically priced essential oils on Amazon. I have Amazon Prime, ordered mine on a Saturday afternoon, & by Monday morning they were here! Make sure to check on the essential oil description about the amount of fluid ounces. My first order I paid as much for 1oz as I did for 4ozs in my second order. They have really good Peppermint, grapefruit, tangerine, & lime.

I love this idea. Instead of making a bag, I used some extra socks. Worked great! Thanks!

      Hi Beth!

I use Mountain Rose Herbs. They are fantastic oils and so much less expensive that some of the other MLM companies out there! Give them a try!

what do you put this in to use as a room deodorizer? Jars or some type of bag or pouch?

    • Gwen says

I have a DIY pouch that I made but you could put it in a bowl, I’d think!

I add Chamomile and Lavender together , both of which are relaxing, in hopes that those coming to see our home at Open House will be RELAXED enough to stay a while. Unfortunately it has not helped (yet) but it sure does smell good, and mellow out the dog and hubby too LOL
