I’m enjoying sharing this series, The Naturally Fresh Home, with you so much! My home has never, not ever, smelled this good.
Like ever.
{I so feel like Taylor Swift right now}
But we can’t have a naturally fresh home without making our own scouring scrub, can we?
What you need:
- 5 Cups Baking Soda
- 1 1/2 Cups Citric Acid
- 1 to 1 1/2 tsp of Essential oil. I used a mix of peppermint and lavender.
If you want to know why we use these ingredients, you can learn what they do in this post.
First, mix the baking soda and citric acid together.
Then add your essential oil and mix it in. Be sure to really get the oil combined.
I use Essential Oils from Mountain Rose Herbs. They are truly amazing and VERY reasonable in price compared to other oils I’ve seen.
You might have to squish it around with the spoon {or clean fingers} so it doesn’t clump up on you.
This recipe made enough to fill this container that I got from Michael’s, plus enough extra to fill this mason jar.
Want Baking Soda in Bulk? Just visit my Amazon Naturally Fresh Home Store!
I will say this though… it’s about $10 cheaper at Sam’s Club. Just want to be real, y’all.

i have got to get in gear with all of these great cleaning tips you are sharing! but i never want to clean again. like ever. 😉
I hear you. At least with these homemade cleaners, I like the smell and can breath! But I’d rather binge watch Netflix. 🙂
Where do you get the citric acid in bulk? I try to use all natural cleaners but they are expensive to buy. Just found you on Pinterest.
Hi Karen! I found mine on Amazon. They have everything!

THANK YOU for being quite possibly the first blog that kept it real and wasn’t all “sunshine and rainbows”, yet still delivered an awesome blog post that is helpful and makes all of us feel like we aren’t the only moms living in the real(and mostly messy, dirty, and sometimes smelly) world! Hats off to you and keep it up!! 🙂
Oh, my gosh,Bree! Thank you!
Life is full of ups and downs and sideways, isn’t it?
just curious but, how do you “use” this? & can it be used to clean the boy smell out of the bathroom floor around the toilet?
Absolutely, Elizabeth! I use this anywhere I’d normally use a product like Comet. 🙂
