If you have pets or children or human people living in your house and have carpet, then you know it can get a bit ripe… as in stanky.  Sometimes, I just want to rip up all the carpet and toss in the yard for the birds to pick at and carry away!

I much prefer hard surface floors when it comes to cleaning and daily wear. But, that’s not happening right now and I have to live with the carpet in my office and my bedroom and all over upstairs.

So, when the stink starts to stank or it just feels a little stale, this is what I do, yoz.

If you have pets or children or people living in your house and have carpet, then you know it can get a bit ripe... as in stanky. Here is my method for how to freshen carpet - Naturally!

How to Freshen Carpet when it’s a bit Stinky

This particular tutorial is just to freshen it up between cleaning.  It won’t get spots out or anything, but it makes the carpet smell so much better and it freshens the room up too!

This is super easy and it makes me incredibly happy to not have to use those stinky cleaners anymore.

First, you need to make up some All Natural Deodorizer.

It’s amazing and I use it for loads of things, like freshening stinky shoes and deodorizing the refrigerator and freshening a stinky trashcan to name a few.

Then, grab a spoon or a shaker {I found mine a Target for just a few dollars} and sprinkle all over the carpet.

Let it sit in the carpet for several hours… overnight if you can.

Then vacuum as usual.all natural air freshener-8

I did mine yesterday and when I came into the office this morning it smelled amazing!

Now HotShot is in here sleeping beside my feet.  It wont’ be long until I do this again, I’m sure.

  1. This is great. I saw this on pinterest and had to comment. I cannot stand the smell and who knows what is in those store bought ones. I have been using this same method for sometime now though with the essential oils. I even use the same kind of dispenser you show! =) I can’t wait to try this with essential oils. Thanks for sharing. Cool blog!

    1. Hi Tanushka!

That’s awesome! It’s so amazing with the essential oils. Be sure and let me know how it goes. I love mine!

      1. 🙂 Glad you were able to read through my typo. I meant *without* the essential oils. I’m going to make it this weekend as I have the Lavender and the Peppermint essential oils on hand. =) Thanks again!

  2. This is going to be great to help get rid of the smell from my stinky, no-matter-how-much-I-bath-him, old doggy 🙂

  3. I do this too, but on especially stinky areas, like under the dogs beds or right at the door, I use a broom to work the powder into my carpet really well. Then when I vacuum it up, it’s just fantastic.

BTW, I once got deathly ill from sleeping at a slumber party on the carpet. The owners had used those smelly floor powders that supposedly clean and refresh. They just sprinkled it on and I inhaled it that night. Bad stuff.

    1. Using a broom to work in the powder is a great idea, Amy!

I’ve used that awful spray stuff before and I’m SO glad that is over. This way is so much safer and smells so much better!

  4. I use a cleaned out, recycled parmasean cheese can to make my deodorizer. The mixture can be stored in it and used to sprinkle on the carpet. No added cost!
