If you’ve been following along in my series on how to have a Naturally Fresh Home, you’ve seen this All Natural Basic Deodorizing Mix. It smells so good… like spring stowed away on a plane to sneak off and vacation on the balmy shores of Hawaii.
You can just leave it in an open jar, and it will make the room tingle with freshness.
But, I didn’t want to leave the big jar open and lose all it’s potency, so I decided I needed some little pouches to put it in.
These little guys are super quick and easy to make. They’re a cute, little fabric envelope waiting to hold some deliciously smelling deodorizer!
What you need:
- Scrap fabric
- thread
- Scissors
- Sewing Machine
- Basic Deodorizing Mix
How to Make a Simple Deodorizing Pouch
First you need some scrap fabric. You can make it any size, really.
For my pouch, I cut a rectangle 5″ wide by 10″ long.
If you want, you can zig-zag the short edges to really make it nice and finished, but I left them as they were.
Take one side of the rectangle and fold it under {towards the wrong side} about 1/2″.
Then, take the other end of the fabric and fold it towards the right side 1 and 1/2 inches and then fold a hem back 1/2 inch as shown in the photo below.
Then fold the rectangle in half, right sides together, matching the edges.
Sew a 5/8″ seam along the sides, leaving the top open.
Trim your seams to 1/4″.
Then zig-zag or sew over the edges with an overcast stitch.
Turn the little pouch right side out and fill about half-full with All Natural Basic Deodorizer.
Then, take your thumbs and flip the little envelope side over.
And that’s it. You have a super-cute, simple deodorizing pouch!
You can stick this just about anywhere to freshen things up. Just leave it on the counter or pop it in with your delicates or socks and make them smell fresh!

Thank you so much for sharing this. Can’t wait to try. But from where I can get essential oils?
I buy mine from Mountain Rose Herbs. They have wonderful oils are are very, very reasonable in price.

Coffee filters would make great pouches – as would dryer sheets, new or used 🙂
Yes, they would, Lori! Great idea!
Thanks for sharing. Made three pairs in less than a half hour. It’s just what I needed for my stinky shoe cabinet. I’ll be using up my scrap fabrics. Just a great idea. Thanks again.
Vanda,
Thanks so much!

Gwen how often do you change out the mixture and what is the shelf life of the premix that you make? Thank you!
I’d say about once a month. The shelf life would be quite a long time if you keep it in a closed jar or air tight container!
