I’ve been working on my office update for ummm…almost a year now.

Yikes.

I tend to get sidetracked by laundry and instagram and, well, eating that I’ve just not quite finished it up yet.

I finally got around to making this amazing tissue paper garland.  It completes me in a way that chocolate lattes just can’t.

Here’s How to Make Tissue Paper Tassels

First, you take a sheet of tissue paper and fold it in half.

Then you can cut it one of two ways.  For regular tissue paper, I found using a paper-cutter fast and easy.

Cut strips about 1/2 inch wide.  Make sure you leave about two inches of the fold un-cut like in the photo below.

My paper-cutter didn’t much like the mylar type tissue paper. I don’t know if they had plans to go break-dancing one night and the mylar paper got cold feet and stood the paper-cutter up or what, but I ended up having to cut it by hand.

Just lay your folded paper at the edge of a table and put something down to hold it in place.  I used a scrap 1×2 and it worked perfectly.

Then just hold the tissue paper from the bottom and slide your scissors up to the top… making sure to leave about 2 inches uncut.

Now, you need to lay it out and open it up.  In the photo below, you can see in action how I did it using a pencil to help me out.

Once you have your paper opened and smoothed out, roll it up.

Then take your paper by the middle and twist as shown below.

Once it is twisted create a loop and hot glue to secure it in place.

Then, take some cute Washi Tape and wrap it around the tassel.  Hot glue the Washi Tape down.  It tries to take flight a bit.

Now repeat for as many tassels as you want.  I made 9 for  my garland.

I feel like I’m celebrating everyday I’m working in my office and catch a glimpse of it.  It just makes my lip corners reach for my ear lobes!

  1. This is perfect. I needed a good tutorial for something like this for my niece’s first birthday.

  2. Thank you for the detailed tutorial, all the other ones I’ve looked at are confusing(and I’m pretty crafty). I love the colors you used!
