It’s gettin’ hot in here… (For the sake of decorum and modesty, I won’t finish that line! hehe)

Summer is just about in full swing here and I’m so thankful to be feeling better and better everyday.  I’m totally enjoying the pool and the relaxed schedule… if you call getting up at 5am to get children to swimming practice relaxed!  But it is and it’s nice to have them home during the day.

And it’s a great time for green juice! Well, anytime is a great time to get some extra nutrients, but this summer I’ve been going at it like a freight train.  I’ll share more about how and why in the next week or so, but I wanted to give you a heads up by sharing my “go-to” green juice recipe!

This recipe is something that has evolved over time and the spicy flavor is really perfect for summer.  It gives the regular, old green juice a powerful punch, and let’s face it green juice needs a wardrobe change from time to time.

This recipe makes about 3/4 of a gallon of juice.  I make my juice in bulk because I only want to have to clean the juicer every few days.  It’s awesome having a juicer at home and it saves a ton of money, but I’m going to be honest and say cleaning it is a bit of a bear.  I’ve gotten more efficient at it, and as long as I only have to do it a couple of times a week, I’m good.

I mean, a juice at the health food store costs about 10 bucks.  I can make it in bulk for just about that price.  If you have a garden and grow your own veggies, even better!  That’s what I’m working toward. 🥒  🥒 🥒

How to make my go-to Spicy Green Detox Juice for Summer!

Yield: almost 1 gallon depending on the size of your vegetables
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes

A spicy green detox juice with kale, celery and lots of other super ingredients!

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch of kale (7-8 leaves)
  • 2 bunches of celery
  • 4 cucumbers
  • 3 lemons
  • 2 thumbs of ginger
  • 1 bunch of cilantro
  • 1 jalapeño

Instructions

  1. Wash all the vegetables.
  2. Juice them, making sure to run a cucumber after you do the ginger and the jalapeño so it will help clean out the basket.
  3. Pour the juice into a large container when your juice pitcher gets full. I usually have to do this twice because it makes so much juice!

The ginger and the jalapeño make this juice a spicy summer treat.  Plus they are both good for digestion!

According to Dr. Axe:

Jalapeños contain a compound knowns as capsaicin. This compound gives way to its ability to help you fight cancer, lose weight, prevent bacterial growth, fight the common cold through its antioxidants, help stop migraine attacks and can improve eyesight. contain a compound knowns as capsaicin. Why should you drink freshly pressed green juice?

According to Joe Cross from the movie Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead: (both 1 and 2 are on Netflix!!)

Juicing offers many life-enhancing health benefits including a faster, more efficient way to absorb immune boosting nutrients naturally found in fruits and vegetables.  It provides a way to access digestive enzymes typically locked away in the fiber matrix of whole fruits and vegetables.  Most commercial juices are processed and lacking in nutrition while freshly juiced fruits and vegetables are loaded with an abundance of vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients.

I always feel a breath of energy after drinking a glass of this spicy green detox juice!

What kind of juicer do I need?

I have a Breville Juicer and I love it.  Mine is three years old now and still going strong!  If you don’t have a juicer and want one that isn’t going to completely break the bank, this one is perfect for you. I’ve seen juicers cost upwards of $400, so I think this is a good price.

Is juicing a part of you health regimen? Let me know down in the comments below!
