It’s actually been a while since I’ve made a Halloween costume. When Morgan was little, I made a seriously out of this world Buzz Light Year one. Then when Brendan came along, I made them both Jedi Knight robes.
This year, Brendan wants to be a cat. I have something cool in mind. He can’t be just a regular cat for Halloween, right? So stay tuned. As soon as I get moved back into my office, I’m going to pull out the sewing machine and go crazy! The paint is drying as I type this sentence, and I can’t wait to get my desk and new rug in there. If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you’ve seen the behind the scenes already.
But since I’m displaced with nowhere to sew, I decided to make his mask first. It was SO easy.
I found this cute little mask with ears at Michaels. Kizmet!
What you need to make this sparkly cat mask:
- 1 mask with ears
- Craft Twinkles Paint from DecoArt
- Glamour Dust Glitter Paint from DecoArt
- DecoArt Multi Surface Paint in Dolphin
- Paint Brushes
First, I painted a layer of Glamour Dust in Black over the entire mask.
Honestly, I could have stopped here. Isn’t it cool?
But I wanted to add a little bit more detail, so I filled in the ears, forehead and nose with the Dolphin.
Then when that was dry, I went over it with the Craft Twinkles Glitter Paint in Silver. I tried not priming the area with grey paint, but the glitter paint needed a base underneath it. Just wanted to let you know so you don’t make the mistake that I made!
This was such a simple project, and I think it turned out really fun. Now I just need to get to work on the rest of the costume.
Do you make your own Halloween Costumes? What are you doing this year?
