Here’s a quick look at this episode:
We can often feel at the mercy of our life.
In this episode, I talk about empowering practice of claiming and making intentional choices.
Well hello there! Welcome back to the Redefining Bold podcast. You're listening to episode number 36 and I'm your host Gwen Whitfield from theboldabode.com, where I help warm-hearted women take small steps toward positive lasting change!
Today, I want to talk about choices.
In my life, I’ve often felt blown by the wind. At the mercy of my circumstances. I’ve lived in a reactionary state for a lot of my life and I have to say, that is not a very empowering place to be.
Sometimes, it’s feels as if life is happening to us. Things come up and we have to go deliver newspapers or work for answering services to make ends meet. We have to get up and show up and make sure that there is food on the table and a roof over our heads.
In times like these, these things that I have had to do in the past to make sure that my family was going to be ok, i was never too proud to do them.
Sure, I was tired and frustrated at times.
I was doing what I had to do to support Morgan through his graduate program, but I was also making a choice to do what I could to keep little Morgan at home with us.
Now, I realize something very important. Something that gives me strength as I sit and write this episode for you. Something that encourages me as I figure out how to create a meaningful and heart-driven business.
Because there are days, my friend, that I think, wouldn’t it be easier just to go out and get a job? Wouldn’t it be easier to just take a paycheck home and leave the work behind? Wouldn’t it be so much simpler if I had a steady income to support the extra things we want to do with our lives?
Yes, sometimes it think it would be.
But, and here is where the growth come in. It’s having this awareness that I am making an intentional choice about the life I am living and the clarity I have of the design for my future.
Honestly, I’m feeling the emotion well up in me right now. Because I know this choice is kind of the road less traveled. And i don’t know exactly how I’m going to do this and what the real next step looks like.
But when I sit down and make intentional choices, and know that these are truly choices that I am making, I have this feeling of embracing my power.
When you feel as if you are at the mercy of your life instead of its creator, it can be insanely limiting. If you aren’t doing what you truly want to be doing, it’s easy to focus on that feeling. But if you claim the road you are traveling because you’ll do what you have to do to provide, that IS a choice. It’s your choice and it’s a meaningful one.
When you look at it this way, your choices become yours. And there is something powerful when you make that distinction.
When I look back over my life, and realize that I was making the best choices for myself at the time that I could, given my limited perspective and awareness, I know that I was doing the best I could at the time.
And that give me peace. And gives me peace knowing that I’ve grown and will continue to grow.
By taking on this mindset, I create my own reality in a way. I see what I want to see and it lifts the emotional burden that I once carried in feeling at the mercy of my life.
I make choices to improve and learn and grow, as I acknowledge where I am, knowing that I am never trapped or stuck, I’m just in the midst of a challenge. And how I approach that challenge, with this mindset of choosing, I find peace and contentment in the journey.
I still get frustrated.
I still get impatient.
I still want more.
But everyday, I get up and make the choice to keep trying. to keep learning. to keep sharing. and to keep growing.
It’s that choice of the choosing that gives me confidence that I’m doing the best I can with what I have.
And so can you!
Thanks so much for listening and I’ll catch you in the next episode!
