I’ve been dreaming of some abstract art making for what seems like eons. Â I’ve been oogling the amazing Black and White DIY Abstract Art for years and finally made myself sit down and crank some out. Â Funniest thing? Â This project is so easy and quick that it makes Mickey D’s seem like the tortoise of the food industry.
This post is brought to you by DecoArt.
How to make your own Black and White DIY Abstract Art
What you need:
- As many 16×20 canvases as you’d like
- DecoArt Paint in Cottonball and Lamp (Ebony) Black
- DecoArt Metallic Lustre in Silver Spark
- Paint Brushes
First take your canvas and give it two good coats of white.
Next take a medium sized paint brush and draw on some random designs.
Easy as Plum Pudding.
This design didn’t make the cut for the mantle, but I’ll be revamping it and using it elsewhere. Â That’s what I love about abstract art. Â You can’t really go wrong, so just shuck off the perfectionism and let your hand just guide the way.
Next, take the Metallic Lustre and add some highlighting anywhere you’d like.
I didn’t really have a rhyme or reason to what I was doing, I just added a bit here and a bit there. Â If I didn’t like where I put it, I just brushed some Black back over the line and no problemo.
I LOVE the art on the mantle. Â Our fireplace is in our dining room (because I’m crazy like zebra pants and switched up our family room and dining room late last fall.)
I’ve been using a LOT of white and gold around here lately, and I felt like the mantle needed a little balance hence the black and white. Â I took some inspiration from the awesome wallpaper in the family room.
Thanks so much to DecoArt for partering with me on this post. Â All opinions are 100% my own, yoz.

P.S. Â Do you like Zebra Pants? Â hehehe
