Here we are at Day 3.
If you missed Days 1 and 2, go catch up, my bleepies…
Day1
Day2
With the cubbies sorta built…almost, and a free day without children…sorta…
I GOT OUT OF THE FREAKIN’ HOUSE BY MYSELF! First time in about a month…no lie. Had to get over to Home Depot, which BTW is like Cold Stone Ice Cream to a Birthday Boy…yummy.
And I met this really nice {super short} helper guy, named Chester. He told me he’d rather help women builders than men anyday cuz men are all arrogant and rude…HOW HILARIOUS!
He also said he met my doppelganger at the Crown Steakhouse. That’s kinda Scee-rah…
Anyhoots, I needed some wood planks for the coveted surface area, which is the entire point of this build. You can’t have more surface area with out a surface for the area. Duh.
Yes, I have some massive boards left over, but if I have to drag another board out in the driveway and scrub any more red Virginia clay off a rough, dirty board, I’ma look like this:
And NOBODY wants that, right?
So, off to Home Depot and White Pine and free cuts and clean smooooooth wood. {sigh}
1. Glue ‘em together, side by side…
2. Don’t have any real clamps, so go find some clothes pins you can stretch out and try to get the boards to stay even…
3. Find the only stinkin’ clamp you own and squish the center together really tightly…
Then I flow that a harpoon daily and nightly
Will it ever stop?
Yo, I don’t know
Turn off the lights and I’ll glow
To the extreme I rock a mic like a vandal
Light up a stage and wax a chump like a candle
Dance…
{Sorry..ice ice baby…back to life, back to reality…good grief, sorry again}
4. Then realize you bought 1/4’s which are actually only 3 3/4” wide and that ‘taint wide enough. Even though you knew that to begin with, and you told the guy you needed 1×6’s and somehow ended up with stinkin’ 1×4’s… Now you gotta go rummage through the scrap heap anyway and come up with something on the fly…
You can add a 1×2 to the end, but you’ll have to screw it on cuz you already put the bracing boards on the undercarriage of the surface A-rea. boo.
5. Glue it on and screw it in. But make sure you pre-drill those holes or you’ll feel like your screwing into rock hard granite…
6. Celebrate your brain and celebrate ingenuity and celebrate that you had some free stuff and didn’t have to go all the way back to Home Depot.
7. Humbly pray that you don’t encounter another opportunity to improvise on the fly. Cuz even though problem solving skills are good to have, when you have to use them, it means you’ve got a problem…
Oh, and get started on that scallop trim, cuz it ain’t gonna make itself…
Why don’t you come on over and help me? I could use some entertainment…
Continuing on to Day 4: It’s all about the Scallops.
