It’s time to wrap up the New Year stuff and get on with LOVE.
Love. Or the art of losing your mind and being wrapped up in the dark side of your brain called e-mo-tion.
eMOTION. The movement of your thoughts to the wild side of hormonal turbulence.
Ok. So maybe that’s a teenage viewpoint to take on love. Especially for one that’s been married for nigh on two decades. {not quite 2, but very nearly almost!}
But the ups and downs of l.o.v.e. are still very, very real. And dreams are still very, very ongoing.
So, I thought i need catch some. With this wreath. To celebrate our love and crafting. Because the two sooo closely related…
But first, a giant heart wreath thank you to DecoArt for partnering with me on this project! All opinions are 100% mine.
What you need:
- 1 twig heart wreath
- 3 white feathers
- Americana Multi-Surface paint in your choice of colors
- Strips of fabric and lace
- Wooden beads
- Wooden heart Cutouts
All of the above were found at Michael’s craft store.
How to make the DIY Painted Feathers
The best paint for feathers is Americana Multi-Surface paint. I used these colors:
- Lipstick
- Deep turquoise
- Pink Cadillac
- Cottonball — just incase I need to touch up any white… which I didn’t. 🙂
I put down some blobs of paint on my paper.
It’s best to add a little bit of water to your paint. It gives is that water-colory effect and makes it easier to spread on the feathers.
Like so:
Twas fun creating a few different effects like this ombre feather:
Sometimes, I needed to press down on the spine of the feather to get good coverage.
Here’s what i ended up with in the feather arena. Pretty neato, eh?
How to put the wreath together
It’s super quick and easy. I like that, yo.
Gather your fabric scraps and accoutrement.
Tie them on however you prefer. I made sure the tying part was facing the back of the wreath.
On the end of all the fabric strips, I added wooden beads.
The leather strips, I sandwiched between two wooden heart cutouts using hot, hot glue to secure.
I’m in love with love and this Heart Wreath Dream Catcher with DIY Painted Feathers!
You can see on the feathers, how I tied a string, wrapped the spine and then added a wooden bead to the tip, securing all with hot-glue.
I don’t think I’ve made anything this fun in a long time.
It was a dream caught and brought to life… woka, woka, woka.
What are your dreams this Valentine’s season?
